Boxer Tyson Fury has spoken out for the first time in response to a petition calling for his removal from the BBC ‘Sports Personality of the Year’ awards shortlist.

The petition, which has reached over 80,000 names, was set up after Fury’s comments about women and gay people came to light in a recent interview, with the boxer quoted as saying “I’m not sexist. I believe a woman’s best place is in the kitchen and on her back. That’s my personal belief. Making me a good cup of tea, that’s what I believe.”

The world heavyweight champion has refused to apologise for his comments and anti-abortion stance, and says that criticism of him is unfair: “Tyson Fury loves his fellow humans. He doesn’t hate anybody.”

Fury has also previously compared abortion and homosexuality to paedophilia saying: “There are only three things that need to be accomplished before the devil comes home: one of them is homosexuality being legal in countries, one of them is abortion and the other one’s paedophilia. Who would have thought in the ’50s and ’60s that those first two would be legalised?”

Fury has gained a huge female fanbase in recent weeks after his comments that fellow ‘Sports Personality of the Year’ nominee Jessica Ennis-Hill “slaps up well” went public. Heidi High, a mum of twin daughters from North London says: “I frickin’ love a man who refers to himself in the third person. It shows the world how tremendously powerful he is, and it pretty much guarantees a massive wanger.”

“Tyson Fury is not a twat”, says Tyson Fury.
